Joselyn Goopio


Joy is one of the key persons who started the hospitality school at Strathmore University in Nairobi, Kenya in 2008. She was instrumental in setting up the hospitality and tourism management degree programme and after six years of running the programme, she spearheaded major curriculum revision for integration of subject content with current trends in the industry.

Joy holds a Master’s degree in Home Economics Education from University of the Philippines and a Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from University of San Carlos, Philippines --- an interesting combination of academic qualifications which shows Joy’s diversity of interest. She is also a trained mentor and holds a professional certificate in Facilities Management. She has attained the international Certification in Hotel Industry Analytics (CHIA) and is an accredited trainer in preparing students for CHIA exams.

Joy has the vision of exerting a positive influence to raise the standards of hospitality and tourism industry through education and training. She plays a key role in the formation of the Tourism Professional Association in Kenya where she currently sits as the interim Vice Chair.
